The city of Escondido was founded in 1888, Escondido is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. The name Escondido means Hidden and has the hidden valley. Escondido was once known for citrus and avocado groves. Escondido is located 18 miles inland from Oceanside, 30 miles north of downtown San Diego and 30 miles south of Temecula.
